Let's pull the plug on NPR

Right Wing Doc Thompson and NPR's Brooke Gladstone in cartoon form

Looks like National Public radio really screwed the pooch this week. We ran across this rather natty little political cartoon featuring seriously right wing talk radio host (and Glenn Beck fill in) Doc Thompson along with Brooke Gladstone, host of National Public Radio's "On the Media", a show with seriously liberal overtones that comes on every Sunday.

Video Grabs from the Source of the James River Basin

This page, Video Grabs from the Source of the James, is a new feature, a place to store video grabs on a variety of topics from in and around the James River Basin including but not limited to the River District and  River City.

"Video Grabs" are still frames taken from moving pictures. They are generally not of a high quality, but might be useful in some situations to illustrate topics where real photographs are not available.

There will be no particular story or purpose behind these "grabs". They are simply intended to present a cross section of life in Central Virgina in the early part of the 21st Century.

Tracy Sears video grab from Sony XDCAM, summer 2010

The first video grab is a shot of Tracy Sears. In addition to being a very pretty woman, Tracy is also a great sport and is our "go-to" gal whenever there's a new piece of equipment to check out.
This grab is from a high-def Sony XDCAM and really isn't all that bad, and could be probably be  improved with some effort in the image editing software.

More grabs coming soon.

The James River Source, from the files

James River district news photo from file

The new and improved James River Source provides expanded opportunities to view photographs and videos related to the James River as it snakes through Central Virgina and other visual material related to the James River Basin and it's environs, its weather, its people and its culture.
The material on this site also goes beyond the River District and the River City proper to provide still and moving images from all points of the compass as relates to the Mid-Atlantic States.

Jockey Katie Crews rides to victory at Colonial Downs
The photos in this inaugural post are a sampling of what you can find in the River City and the environs surrounding what the late Hunter Andrews often called the Holy City.
Colonial Downs in New Kent Country is a great source for material outside of the River District proper.
